The San Antonio Brahmas and Their Future Prospects.

San Antonio Snap Count

As I walked around the Alamodome, a few hours before kickoff, I ran across a father and son throwing a football around outside the Stadium with their Brahmas gear on and smiles across their faces. As I stepped out onto the field for Pregame warm-ups, the Stadium DJ was playing some old-school smooth jazz that had Coach Elizondo fired up and dancing to the music. The players were engaged in their unusual, witty banter, commonly referred to as trash talk, as they prepared themselves mentally and physically for the start of the game. Brahmas Players and fans alike are in Good Spirits despite a season of turmoil and struggles, even though the final game of the season is here.

As we sit back and watch pro UFL football in San Antonio come to an end in 2025, one can't help but start thinking about the offseason. For the first time since the merger, it appears there are more team-related questions that need to be answered instead of league-wide questions. We do not need to worry about whether the 2026 season will happen or if we will lose our team here in San Antonio. How refreshing it is to merely have operational questions that need to be asked during the offseason.

For instance, has Coach Pardee done enough to secure being named the permanent head coach in 2026? Which players have performed well enough to be re-signed in 2026? Will Wade Phillips be back with the team as the head coach? Or will he serve some other role with the team or even the league?

There are on-field questions; the Brahmas rank last in total passing yards and scoring, so will the team need to make wholesale changes across the board on offense? Will starting quarterback Kellen Mond return in 2026? What needs to be done to get the Brahmas' defense back to their 2024 level of play when they ranked first in almost every defensive category?

What about marketing and broadcasting? The Brahmas have had two Sunday games this season, and both broadcasts were delayed by 1 hour, forcing fans to miss the beginning of both games. As I sat in the Press box writing this article, there were only two other media members present. Where are all the legacy media personnel? What new direction should team personnel take to help promote the Brahmas games and increase attendance back to the AAF days, with 20,000-plus fans in the stands?

Despite the many different questions that need to be answered the fact of the matter is pro football is here to stay in San Antonio, and how refreshing it is as a sports writer to have endless questions about the UFL and Brahmas without any of them being questions on the viability of the league or the team's return in 2026.
