DeMarquis Gates LB #43 Bears
DeMarquis Gates came into the second half of the Bears preseason game against the Chiefs and made his presence known almost immediately helping his team get a turnover. Bears rookie LB Sanborn and Gates combined on a tackle that forced a fumble. Gates definitely picked up right where he left off in the USFL and that's one advantage I think these guys have over other undrafted rookies. The USFL guys are still only a month and a half away from playing 60 minutes of football in the Alabama heat and come into camp conditioned and ready to go. He ended his day with 3 tackles. He will be playing next as the Bears have made their first round of cuts and he wasn't one of them.
Tae Hayes DB #32 Panthers
Tae Hayes proved he wasn't just a training camp baller in the preseason matchup between the Panthers and Commanders. He seemed to play almost immediately in the game and had a great pass breakup and showed some good tape while racking up 5 solo tackles, most on his team. Hayes will get a chance to put some more tape out next week as the Panthers have already made their cuts to get to the 85 player limit. Hope he can stack another good game on this one next week!!
Chris Odom DE #61 Browns
Chris Odom came into the preseason game between the Browns and Jaguars at the end of the first half and all of the second half. He was able to wrap up the Jags QB for a sack and showed some solid speed chasing him out of bounds towards the sideline causing him to throw an interception. Odom seemed to do exactly what he did in the USFL in the NFL preseason, and that's just always being in the opposing backfield. The Browns have made cuts to be at the 85 player roster limit so we will see more Odom next week.
KaVontae Turpin WR/KR #2 Cowboys
The man that we have dubbed "Electricity" was able to show a much wider audience a little piece of that this past preseason weekend. KaVontae Turpin signed a 3 year deal with the Cowboys and seems like a lock to make the final 53 man roster, especially if he keeps performing and practicing the way he has been. He had 2 receptions for 12 yards, 2 kick-off returns for 47 yards (23.5AVG) and one punt return for 10 yards I'm the Cowboys game against the Broncos. He seemed to be sprinkled into some offensive formations throughout the game and with the Cowboys losing a receiver in training camp recently, Turpin's services could be called on more often.
Victor Bolden WR #38 Cardinals
Victor Bolden seemed to line up in all kinds of different positions on the offense as well as some special teams reps. Folks around Arizona seem to think Bolden will be sticking around either on the practice squad or to be a return man and more receiver depth on the active roster, especially after seeing him in action this past Friday. He had one kick return for 20 yards, one reception for 15 yards, and a rush for 6 yards, showing some Cardinals insiders that Shanahan loves the abilities Bolden brings to the field. He will be playing next week as the Cardinals don't have to make any more cuts until after the next preseason game.
